Lamps - Table Lamps, Floor Lamps, Modern Lamps, Torchiere, Wood

Lamp options include table lamps, floor lamps, contemporary lamps, modern lamps, Target, Tiffany, desk, torchiere, wood, reading, Ikea, or be a lamp designer

Lamps have been around for thousands of years.  Originally, oil was used as a fuel source to produce light over a continuous period of time.  The kerosene lamp became popular several hundred years ago.  In modern times, most people make use of electric lamps to light a room.

With the emergence of electric lamps came many different styles and designs.  When it comes to purchasing a lamp, there are a number of choices.  Common lamp types are table lamps, floor lamps, contemporary lamps, modern lamps, Target lamps, Tiffany lamps, and desk lamps.

While there are a number of types of lamp designs, there are also differences from a technical perspective.  The most popular types are listed and discussed below.

Arc Lamp

This is the term that is used to describe lamps that produce light through an electric arc.  Two electrodes are separated by gas and the lamp is also referred to by the type of gas that is used such as neon or mercury.

Fluorescent Lamp

This type of light converts electricity into a more energy efficient form dramatically reducing energy costs.  Traditionally used in commercial facilities or office buildings, fluorescent lights are now available in smaller sizes and can be used much like an incandescent bulb, making it much easier to save money.

Gas Discharge Lamp

This light is produced by an electrical discharge sent through a gas.  There are a number of uses for this type of light but it is usually more complicated to manufacture than other types of light.

Incandescent Light Bulb

This is the classic light bulb.  It is not the most energy efficient, but they are quite cheap when it comes to the initial purchase and they have been the most popular in recent times.  The filament contained in the light bulb heats up until it glows and it produces light.  The filament is protected from the air by a glass bulb that surrounds it.

When it comes to purchasing table lamps, desk lamps, floor lamps, or any other type of lamp, there are a few important considerations to be considered.  Cost is obviously a major factor and it is possible to find discount lamps if you look around.  But in addition to initial cost, you will want to consider the costs over time.  Energy Star lamps or any other energy efficient lamps will save you money in the long run so it is something to consider.  These are some of the practical considerations that must be taken into account.

There are also stylistic considerations that should be considered.  When it comes to selecting the right lamp, you will want to make sure that it fits with the rest of the room in terms of color and style.  After you can classify the rest of the room – be it traditional, modern, etc., then you can go ahead and find the right lamp/lamp shade to match the rest of the room.

So go out and fight a lamp that you can enjoy using and hopefully save money in the process.
