Lamps have been around for thousands of years. Originally, oil was used as a fuel source to produce light over a continuous period of time. The kerosene lamp became popular several hundred years ago. In modern times, most people make use of electric lamps to light a room.

The filament contained in the light bulb heats up until it glows and it produces light. The filament is protected from the air by a glass bulb that surrounds it.

Cost is obviously a major factor and it is possible to find discount lamps if you look around. But in addition to initial cost, you will want to consider the costs over time. Energy Star lamps or any other energy efficient lamps will save you money in the long run so it is something to consider.
